Gareth is the creator and Technical Director of Advantage Soccer. Gareth has been playing soccer for over 22 years and along the way has been fortunate enough to play at a high level whilst becoming a student of the game. A district and county captain from an early age Gareth went on trial to numerous Barclay’s Premier League and Football League clubs before joining the Port Vale FC Academy at 12. On reaching the school leaving age of 16 Gareth was signed by Port Vale as an apprentice and completed a two year contract, being released following injury at 18. Moving into education and semi-pro football Gareth completed a Degree in Physical Education becoming the first football player at the University of Wolverhampton to receive a scholarship whilst also competing in the Northern Premier with Halesowen Town. At this time he began his coaching career with Walsall F.C. in League One of the English football pyramid. On completion of his degree Gareth continued to coach and play, also moving into Special Educational Physical Education teaching gaining valuable experience in different learning and teaching methods.
In the summer of 2011 Gareth made the move to Canada taking up a coaching role with RVDL Soccer Academy in Oakville. During his time with RVDL Gareth was fortunate to be mentored by Robin Van Der Laan, former BPL player and A license coach. After an 18 month period with the company he rose to the position of Assistant Academy Director taking on the responsibilities including creating a technical and tactical curriculum for all development phases from 6 to 16. Having spent four successful years with RVDL, Gareth left earlier this summer to continue his passion of technical soccer coaching and in order to do so founded Advantage Soccer.
